In August 2014, SourceMedia was acquired by Observer Capital. Observer Capital is an investment firm focused on private equity and special situation opportunities across the media, finance and business services industries. By bringing partnership and experience to each investment, Observer Capital seeks to enhance value through strategic growth initiatives, operating and technology improvements, and add-on acquisitions.

 

SourceMedia is focused on continuing with the execution of its strategy by enhancing its portfolio of services – on behalf of its marketing clients, subscribers, and event attendees – and accelerating its development through organic growth and acquisitions.

Responsibilities

The Finance Director is responsible for providing financial projections and business analysis informing key business decisions for the subscription and paid content business.  They will oversee all financial aspects of the subscription business unit; driving financial strategy and planning, and assuring there are strong internal financial controls in place. They will have a deep understanding of key drivers, KPI’s in paid content and leverage this knowledge to report on the overall health of the business, understand key levers to moving the business and identify new opportunities to drive growth serving as an important business partner. 

 

The position reports to the VP of Finance with a matrix report to the Chief Subscription Officer.

 

Responsibilites include but not limited to:

 

  • Monitor the financial condition of the business through the preparation, collection, interpretation and analysis of key performance indicators 
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of subscription financial forecasts for both revenue and expense analyses to drive decisions 
  • Manage and maintain subscription related contracts (content licensing vendors, systems vendors) 
  • Provide financial support and analysis for all subscription activities and business issues, including developing pricing and revenue financial models 
  • Analyze all aspects of operations, structure, and spending patterns to help identify opportunities with the goal of maximizing operational efficiency 
  • Provide risk management support around the subscription business unit 
  • Cross-functional liaison representing finance department interests

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with financial subscription analysis 
  • CPA, CIMA preferred 
  • Paid subscription business experience 
  • Direct exposure to senior management and related reporting 
  • Analytically minded individual with experience utilizing and managing large datasets  
  • Advanced Excel skills including lookups and pivot tables are required 
  • Must be able to manage projects and analysis from inception to completion 
  • Team player with the ability to work effectively under pressure
