About the Position
Reporting to the Chief Content Officer, the Executive Director leadsSourceMedia’s Research operation, with responsibility for planning, coordination, and execution of client-commissioned and proprietary Research projects from conception to content deliverable. In addition to responsibility for hands-on execution, the Executive Director must play a key role in driving overall Research strategy, including enabling the business line’s overall growth. To achieve these goals, the Executive Director will initially oversee a staff of three and work closely with Editorial, Marketing Services, and Conferences teams, and with senior leadership. Going forward, our intention is for the business line to grow and to play an increasingly important role across all products and services.
Most of our Research today is client-commissioned, driven through Marketing Services, with a minority editorially-driven. The latter includes projects monetized through sponsorship and subscription sales. In the future, we expect the balance to shift – with more Research triggered by editorial insights, community panels and peer councils, and other applications designed to benefit end-users, including data products, benchmarks and other resources.
The relationship between the Research team and the company’s editorial SMEs is a unique and important aspect of our approach. In cultivating this, we aim to unlock and exploit synergies that bring immediacy to and enrich the quality of our work. In particular, the Research team turns to the editorial team for subject-matter expertise necessary to execute its work, including design of studies and interpretation of results. The Executive Director often also playa marketer- or customer-facing role, understanding their needs, explaining capabilities, developing deliverables and presenting results.
